  • Call to Artists “Love is Love” for Downey Pride Festival

    Downey Arts Coalition has issued a Call to Artists, with student submissions welcome, for “Love is Love,” an exhibit at the 3rd annual Downey Pride Festival.

    The Art Experience will be a 5 Tent Group Art Show, in downtown Downey, on Saturday, August 26, 2023. Presented by L.A. CADA.

    Art must reflect at least one of the following – Love, Inclusion, Respect, Ampathy, Self-Love, Identity, Lifestyle, Diversity, Hearts, and Rainbows.

    Downey Arts Coalition and Downey Symphonic Society present “EarthRecycled II,” a group art exhibit featuring artwork inspired by Earth day. We are looking for pieces created using recycled materials or of environmental themes. Paper, plastic, paint, glass, metal, etc, whatever can be recycled. Help to change the world by using your “trash” to create new and amazing art.

    The show takes place in the lobby of the Downey Theatre, before and after the next concert of the Downey Symphony Orchestra, April 6th, 2019. Submit images of your artwork to curator Andrew Hernandez, andrewh@www.downeyarts.org.  Include the title, medium and size, as well as a short description.

    A new holiday themed art show, “Love, Peace and Joy” is to be presented by the Downey Arts Coalition as part of the “It’s Christmas in Downey” art show at the Downey Theatre on December 16th.  Artists who wish to submit work that fits the theme can email andrewh@www.downeyarts.org.  Deadline for entry is December 9th.

    For many decades films have been a great source for entertainment for countless people throughout the entire world. Films take us to faraway places people could only see in their dreams, tells stories of great evils against a great goods, love, horror and history of great events and greater people. Over the years the medium has gone through changes and styles that has since become hyper realistic and provide an immersive experience.

    In honor of the seventh year of the Glennfest Film Festival, Downey’s free film festival, we will be holding an art exhibition at the Downey Civic Theatre. We are looking for art pieces that take inspiration or based around different films that have been released. This includes portraits of the actors and actresses who have been involved in the film industry throughout history and other items or people surrounding the industry.     

    Selected artists will be featured in the galley booklet, with your contact information. All artists will access to all film screenings for the entire festival and can attend whichever ones they can as all screenings are free. Artists are also encouraged to attend our reception brunch Sunday, October 9 from 11am- 1pm with food, drinks and live music.
